Tech Requirements

Technical Requirements – Motorcycles

Motorcycles must meet the following technical requirements to be allowed on the track.

🏁 Race Numbers & Scoring
  • Reserved Numbers: Race numbers 1–5 are reserved for the top 5 ranked riders in the Open Advanced class.

  • Number Display:

    • All motorcycles must display numbers clearly on both sides and the front.

    • Recommended sizes: 6β€³ high on sides, 4β€³ high on front.

    • Numbers must be clear and legible. If scoring cannot read your number, your race will not be scored.

    πŸ›  General Motorcycle & Scooter Requirements
    • No visible oil or fluid leaks.

    • Oil containment:

      • Drain and fill bolts must be safety wired.

      • External oil filters must be safety wired with a hose clamp to a solid point on engine or chassis.

      • Internal oil filter covers must be safety wired or secured with silicone sealant.

    • Footpeg sliders: Hard, smooth plastic required. Metal or fabric wraps are not acceptable.

    • Throttle: Must return smoothly and snap to idle immediately.

    • Brakes: Proper front/rear brake operation required. Safety wiring recommended on bolts.

    • Coolant: Only water or Water Wetter allowed. No glycol-based coolants (including Engine Ice).

    • Catch cans: Required for oil and fuel vent/overflow lines. Must be metal or plastic (no glass/paper).

    • Lighting: All lights and turn signals must be taped over completely.

    • General safety: Bike must be free of loose bolts, chains, or any defect deemed hazardous by the tech inspector.

    πŸ—‘ Required Equipment Removal
    • Must be removed:

      • Mirrors

      • Tool kit

      • License plate & bracket

      • Center stand

    • Strongly recommended to remove:

      • Headlight

      • Reflectors

      • Turn signals

      • Tail light & assembly

      • Horn

      • Side stand & center stand

    🏍 Additional Requirements: Full-Size Motorcycles
    • Front & rear axle sliders required.

    • Bar-end sliders or handguards required.

      • Heavy-duty handguards (Cycra ProBend, Fastway FIT, etc.) strongly recommended.

      • Bikes without heavy-duty guards will be evaluated for adequate protection.

    • Kickstands:

      • Must be removed if inside ground-impact line (e.g. DRZ-400, Honda XR).

      • Kickstands not in impact line (e.g. KTM, Beta, Husqvarna) must be zip-tied in the raised position.

      • If in doubt β†’ remove it.

    🏍 Additional Requirements: Minibikes & Scooters
    • Front & rear axle sliders recommended but not required.

    • Handguards recommended but not required.

    🏍 Rider & Crew Safety Rules
    • Insurance: Cascadia Supermoto does NOT provide medical insurance.

    • Each rider and pit crew member must carry their own personal medical insurance.

    Technical Requirements – Racers

    It is the rider’s responsibility to wear adequate safety equipment when competing.

    • Riders may be removed from competition at any time by tech inspectors or race direction for insufficient gear.

    • Riders will not be allowed on track without all required protective equipment.

    • Note: Costumes or non-functional β€œfor fun” attire must be pre-approved by a technical inspector.

    ⛑️ Helmet
    • DOT or Snell certified, manufactured after 2005

    • Full-face design, undamaged, in good condition

    πŸ‘“ Eye Protection
    • Shatter-resistant (ANSI Z87 or better recommended)

    • Goggles, safety glasses, or face shield

    🧀 Gloves
    • Designed for asphalt riding

    • Abrasion-resistant palms required

    • Thin MX-only gloves are not recommended

    πŸ‘’ Boots
    • Heavy boots covering the ankles

    • MX, Supermoto, or road-racing boots strongly preferred

    🦴 Spine Protection
    • Required: adequate back/spine protection

    • Preferred: hard clamshell-style back protector

    • Acceptable: CE-rated foam pad if large enough

    πŸ§₯ Abrasion Protection
    • Pants: Leather or synthetic riding pants required.

      • Jeans/heavy canvas only if motorcycle-specific (e.g., Draggin’ Jeans) or worn with armor.

      • Motocross pants allowed with knee armor (not encouraged).

    • Jacket/Upper Body: Abrasion-resistant jacket or jersey with armor underneath.

      • Jerseys/sweatshirts alone are not sufficient.

    • Suits: Two-piece synthetic riding suits (Aerostich, Hein Gericke, Motoport, etc.) acceptable.

    • Leathers: One-piece or two-piece zip-together leathers strongly encouraged.

    • Coverage: No visible skin below the neck. Gear must fit properly.

    πŸ›‘οΈ Body Armor
    • Strongly encouraged: shoulder, elbow, chest, knee, hip protection

    • Leatt-style neck braces also encouraged (not required unless otherwise specified)

    πŸ‘· Protective Gear for Pit Crew & Staff

    Anyone working on the racetrack when it is declared hot must wear:

    • Shirt

    • Long pants

    • Closed-toe shoes

    Strongly recommended (esp. for corner workers & hot pit crew):

    • Gloves

    • Eye protection

    • Long-sleeve shirt

    Technical Inspection

    • Every motorcycle must be certified for racing by the race day technical inspector before being allowed on the
      track. The tech inspector will mark each motorcycle as approved after examination, or will tell the racer how to
      make their motorcycle ready to race.
    • Technical inspectors have final say on whether or not a motorcycle meets technical requirements and is safe to
      race.
    • Arguing with the technical inspector is not allowed, and may result in other penalties, up to or including ejection
      from the event, at the discretion of race direction.
    • If a motorcycle cannot be made ready to race prior to the start of racing, it will not be allowed on the track and
      the racer will be refunded their entry fees for that day.
    • Disputes between competitors on the legality of a specific motorcycle, application of a class rule or
      technical requirement, class protests, or concerns about the condition of a competing motorcycle should be taken to
      the technical inspector.
